About UsMuseum of the Weird

Explore the mysterious and the unexplained! Monsters, zombies, mummies, shrunken heads & the fiji mermaid await you at the Museum of the Weird! We are one of the last “dime museums” popularized by P.T. Barnum in the 1800’s.

See wax figures of famous monsters -- we even have a life-size giant gorilla you can take your picture with in the SFANTHOR'S CHAMBER OF HORRORS!

Our museum is the combined force of over 20 years in the oddity business. Owners of Lucky Lizard Curios & Gifts shop, Steve and Veronica Busti, opened the museum because "Some of the oddities in the store were just too weird and too interesting to justify selling". Safe to say that visitors are grateful for the opportunity to gaze on the ghastly!

Look for the classic Lucky Lizard gift shop sign on 6th street and head inside...if you dare!

ReviewsEverybody Loves Our Museum!

"One of the most authentic things to do in Austin, Museum of the Weird surely contributed to the Keep Austin Weird motto that defines the city. It's freaky, cool, and totally unique experience. Definitely a family activity...especially if you loved Adam's Family. We feature them high on our list of the Best Things to do in Austin List."

"One of the best Fortean museums I've visited! It's a mix of sideshow carnival, wax museum, and odditorium. It's a small place, but it's packed with interesting displays. Must see if you're in downtown Austin!"

"The Museum of the Weird truly lives up to its name! It's a fantastic place to visit and get thoroughly amused. The exhibits are quirky, intriguing, and offer a unique glimpse into the bizarre. Whether you're a fan of the unusual or just looking for something different to do, this museum is sure to entertain and fascinate. Highly recommended for a fun and offbeat experience!"

"We loved this place! Our teens were bickering. It was raining. We had to turn their frowns upside down. We surprised them and brought them to the Museum of the Weird! It was our first stop on our visit to Austin. Immediately their attitudes changed and they had so much fun and so did we. It changed the course of our trip. They thought Austin would be full of cowboys. This was perfect! If you have teens, or just want something fun to do, then you gotta check this place out!"

"This was a nice pleasant surprise of a place! We had some plans cancelled in downtown Austin and found this place for my family to enjoy. There are reproductions as well as actual oddities. I’d recommend this for people who like carnival attractions."

"This place is a must see in Austin, especially for fans of the macabre, strange, oddities, and all things strange. This is the home of the famous Minnesota Ice Man!!...I highly recommend this museum...The gift shop is decently sized and had lots of interesting choices including shirts, stickers, magnets, bags, toys, postcards, and handmade jewelry from local artisans."

"My husband and I really enjoyed our time here at the Museum of the Weird. We got to see some truly fascinating things, and even an exhibit that I had seen some years ago on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries!!! (I'm a huge fan, lol.) All of the attendants were super helpful and friendly, and found ample time to tell us stories and give us history on the building/exhibits. So much fun!!"

"It was exactly what we expected-a weird museum. The self-guided tour leads you through three levels of interesting objects ranging from movie props to folklore to fossils and even human remains. The tour is very affordable and the gift shop has a neat variety of off-the-wall items to explore. We thought this place would be an interesting place to burn some time and see something you don’t see everyday and we were right. If you are in the neighborhood it’s worth stopping by!"
