Reverend Mark Manly is different from many of the paranormal investigators that we’ve spoken with in the past on The Shadow Hour. He is an ordained minister with a Doctorate degree in philosophy and a secondary degree in psychology. He is also a certified grief counselor. What would lead a man such as this into the world of the paranormal? He’ll explain what drew him to this path and how his spiritual perspective affects how he deals with what some would label “the supernatural.”

We’ll also talk about how his experience has led him into some new activities as a public speaker and Master of Ceremonies for events.

Michael Graves visited the very haunted Catfish Plantation restaurant in Waxahachie, Texas. He took a lot of pictures, several of which had some interesting anomolies. Are they ghosts? We’ll talk to him about his experience and the things that he could not capture in a photograph.

As the interest in paranormal investigation works its way through the media pathway, isn’t it time that we had “Ghost Hunter, the Motion Picture?” Your host might not line up for that one, but he is interested in seeing the outcome of guest, Will Scoville’s film “Voice of the Unknown, A Paranormal Investigation.” Will has been working in films and television for years, but you don’t have to believe us— check out his IMDB page.

When Will encountered friends and family who were involved with paranormal investigation, he saw the opportunity to tell an interesting story. We talked a while back with Robbie Prince about this project from the view of the investigative team. Now we’ll hear about it from the view of the film makers.

ABC’s Nightline has begun a series called “Beyond Belief” that is examining paranormal claims. Their first segment, which aired 8/16/2011, mostly featured Banachek, a magician who is an outspoken critic of psychics. Since Banachek is a mentalist, a performer who uses stage magicians’ techniques to simulate mind reading and other types phenomena, he is well positioned to discus how such things can be faked. He will appear on Nightline again to demonstrate his “million dollar challenge” where he says he will give $1 million to anyone who can pass his test.

Clearly, Banachek, and people like him, believe passionately that they are fighting an important battle. They feel that people are being cheated and harmed by a belief in psychic phenomena. How does their concern affect other areas of the paranormal? Is the search for ghosts and other curiosities simply a sort of escape? Are we causing more harm than good?

Tonight, we’ll open the lines to your calls to discuss the debunking claims and how it compares to your own experiences. We will try to follow these segments and continue the discussion as the Nightline series continues.
