More Texas UFOs

The other day I talked about the strange 19th century UFO history of Aurora, Texas. Not all UFO history in Texas is ancient (in Texas years. Those Greeks and Egyptians are just showing off.). Stephenville, Texas has had some really interesting sightings, including one that received a lot of attention in 2008. The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) released a detailed report on the incident, which included their analysis of RADAR data.

More recently there was a bizarre sighting over Houston that was captured by many people, documented in this news report.

Texas has been identified as a UFO hotspot. There is also a web site dedicated to Texas UFO Sightings. If creatures from another planet do decide to make themselves known, Texas would be a good place to start. We’re friendly here, with some open spaces that would make good landing sites. It’s also important that they get a chance to appreciate proper BBQ first. 😉

Have you ever seen a UFO? Tell us about it or share in the comments!

A tiny Texas town with a weird UFO history

You might think that UFO stories about aliens are pretty new, but there’s one in Texas that dates back to 1897. A tiny town called Aurora, just a little north of Ft. Worth (215 miles from the Museum of the Weird), has a mysterious legend about an alien encounter.

I’m thinking field trip! It’s about a 3.5 hour drive from the Museum. We head out, pay our respects. Maybe we sneak into Ft. Worth for some food and maybe a Stockyard Ghost tour. (There doesn’t seem to be much to eat in Aurora unless you’ve got family there.) I suppose we’d need to stay overnight. It could be a real good time!

Would you go on a weird field trip with us?

There is a full-length documentary about the alien crash in Aurora.

What is that in the sky?!

Imagine driving down the road and you see this up ahead.

You might feel that we were being invaded, but what you see is an unusual formation called a “lenticular cloud.” These clouds form in situations where some sort of large object (like a mountain or a building) disturbs the air flow and creates an eddie of air. When the conditions are right, clouds form in these eddies and take on a bizarre saucer shape that looks like something from the film, Independence Day.

These weird clouds may account for some UFO reports. Here are some more amazing examples.

Of course, not all reports can be explained by clouds. Soon we’ll examine some of the more detailed reports and the organization that constantly tracks and investigates them.

Sounds in the sky

People around the world are reporting a strange trumpeting sound that seems to come from the sky. It’s a massive droning unlike any aircraft we’ve ever heard before.

Listen to the sounds in this video from Texas.

Another video from Germany is very similar, though less distinct.

https://youtu.be/0hgx0dbzayM

There is speculation that we are hearing the mysterious HAARP project, a radio-wave device that some claim is used for weather control. Officials deny that HAARP has any affect on the weather, though there is a patent, number 4686605,  which appears to describe exactly such a theory. HAARP was supposedly set to be dismantled in 2014, but page 92 of this US Navy budget request shows continued funding.

Could Mysterious Radio Signals Be E.T.?

SETI

Is it possible that SETI has finally found what it’s been looking for — an extraterrestrial message from deep space?  Apparently for some time now, scientists have been receiving these unusual radio signals, and are at a loss for what could explain them.

From the Huffington Post:

What are those things?

For the past eight years, astronomers have been scratching their heads over a series of strange radio signals emanating from somewhere in the cosmos. And now, the mystery has deepened.

A new study shows that the so-called “fast radio bursts” follow a weirdly specific pattern — a finding that the researchers behind the study say “is very hard to explain.”

“There is something really interesting we need to understand,” study co-author Michael Hippke, a scientist at the Institute for Data Analysis in Neukirchen-Vluyn, Germany, told New Scientist. “This will either be new physics, like a new kind of pulsar, or, in the end, if we can exclude everything else, an E.T.

Alien signals, really? That might sound far out, but a leading scientist in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) says we shouldn’t rule out that possibility.

NSA “Loses” Originals of Redacted UFO Files

I would have gone with ‘my dog ate them’.

51914-Aliens-guy-owvj

Believe what you will about extraterrestrial life visiting our planet, our government doesn’t want us to know…something. The fight to get the National Security Agency to release files about UFOs goes back to the 70’s when the Citizens Against UFO Secrecy (CAUS) headed by lawyer Peter Gersten was trying to use the Freedom of Information act to see the documents. The NSA refused and the group sued. Now, if there was nothing to see, why so secretive?

The NSA monitor all kinds of communications and it’s entirely possible that some of this information was included in said files, which would explain, for awhile anyway, why they didn’t think the general public should get their hands on them. But during the case when the Chief of the Office of Policy for the NSA submitted a 21 page document to the judge as to why the files should remain secret, the judge concurred: “The public interest in disclosure is far outweighed by the sensitive nature of the materials and the obvious effect on national security their release may well entail.”

So what does that mean?

Even this document was all but entirely redacted when released, even the version the CAUS lawyer got to see.

Yeates-Redacted

In 1997, new laws made it more difficult for the NSA to hold onto the files so a considerably less redacted version of the document as well as 156 UFO documents were released…sort of. The UFO documents pretty much whited out anything of real interest and still, UFOlogists found themselves in a holding pattern waiting to see what the government knew about extraterrestrial life (assuming that’s what they were actually hiding).

Recently John Greenewald, a UFO and government secrecy researcher has been petitioning the NSA for release of the unredacted versions. The NSA responded with…’we lost them’. Apparently they pretty much destroyed the existing documents by whiting out the majority of them on the last round and now the originals are MIA. I kinda half-way believe this. Government inefficiency (sometimes downright incompetency) is certainly a thing of public record and I’m sure the documents weren’t where they thought they were. But I can’t believe they looked real hard either. Maybe we’ll never know the truth now, but in the wake of paid mis-informationalists coming forward like Richard Doty and probably some less-than-strictly-legal behavior during the cold war they’d most likely still not really be circulated, it’s hard to say whether the documents really hold the UFO secrets some like to believe.

The Salesman, The Lights, His Alien Lover and a Mummy

lights1

The Place: The Appalachian Mountains

The Time: 1965

The Story: Pretty wild, man.

Meet Ralph Lael, a furniture salesman who was scouting a mountain in North Carolina that was famous for what was called “The Brown Mountain Lights”. On certain nights, many claimed that mysterious lights would rise up from the forest and into the skies. Pre-1947 and the beginning of the UFO craze, they were believed by Native Americans and early settlers to be ‘spirit lights’, but of course after…

But back to Ralph…he encountered these lights, and in a very direct way: “I’m frightened, don’t know what to do,” he wrote. “One light moves forward. It is now about ten feet from me and it is glowing. I could read a newspaper by the shining of it. It is ten to twelve feet across. Almost a perfect circle. It has a brown center that does not look solid. The shape of the brown center is like a tumble bug but without a head standing on its back end. Not touching the ground but suspended in the center of the glowing ball. It seems to have three hands or feelers protruding out from each side.”

Ralph claimed in the book he wrote about his experiences that after learning to communicate with the light using basic yes-no questions, it led him through crystal walled tunnels into a secret cave base in the mountain where he met an alien race called The Pewam. They took him to the planet Venus (which he said was made entirely of crystal), warned him about the dangers of nuclear science, and totally let him nail a hot alien chick named Noma who showed up to greet him in just a bra and panties.

….

Yeah, that too. I kinda want to get abducted now.

After he was brought back, he says he found a small mummified alien body in one of the caves and he brought it back to town where he displayed it in a glass case in hit furniture store for years until he died and the store was bulldozed….AND NO ONE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BODY!!!

alienmummy

Naturally, stories of the Men in Black showing covering up evidence immediately surfaced, but many have more reasonably tied the mummy to being a sideshow attraction created by the legendary Homer Tate. Regardless of it’s earthly or unearthly origins, we still don’t know what happened to it.

Ok, so Venus isn’t made of crystal, and Ralph was almost certainly a huckster trying to attract folks coming to see the lights (which appear to be a real and probably naturally occurring phenomena), but it’s certainly more fun to imagine Ralph on a sexy space adventure.

The Haunted, Alien Hotspot, Dimensional Portal Forest of Hoia-Baciu

awoods

Right off the bat, I’ve got to give full credit to a website called “Travel Creepster”. You gotta give props for that as a concept. It was through one of their posts that I first discovered the bizarre forest of Hoia-Baciu in Romania where for the paranormal, it’s always business time.

This small 1 square mile forest located to the west of the city of Cluj-Napoca has a lovely biking trail and facilities for paintball, airsoft and archery. It’s also thought to be absolutely terrifying and filled with all manner of bogeymen, time distortions, ghostly visitors, ufos, etc, etc. While the locals have traditionally been wary of the place, which has had its share of urban legends associated with it, not until relatively recently a story was reported widely that created infamy for the woods.

In the 1960’s a biologist named Alexandru Sift started investigating the very odd trees that fill the forest.

trees

He never did find an explanation for the shape of the trees, but after a series of scientific surveys, Alexandru claimed that he constantly felt the ‘shadows’ were watching him, and experienced mysterious sound phenomena, such as giggling female voices, rustling, and chattering teeth. His experiences have been shared by many, many visitors to the strange forest, especially the experience of ‘living’ shadows.

Later in 1968, a ufo was photographed above the forest, which has been held up by Ufologists since as one of the more plausible pieces of photographic evidence. Visitors reporting strange lights and floating orbs here is relatively commonplace, as is the strange effect reported by hundreds of people upon entering the forest of experiencing extreme nausea, panic attacks, headaches, and even skin burns. Is this UFO radiation? Geiger Counter wielding visitors say no, but what’s causing these unpleasant symptoms?

There are TONS of stories relating any number of other bizarre things associated with the woods, my personal favorite being the little girl who entered the forest, disappeared for years, and eventually exited with no awareness any time had passed and who hadn’t aged a day. Stories such as this have led to conjecture that a time or dimensional portal lies within the woods. Regardless of WHICH paranormal thingee is goin’ on in them thare woods, I’d imagine it’d make a great destination location for anybody interested in the otherworldly.

Sheep Getting Slaughtered by Laser-Happy UFOs

black-sheep-face-off

Well, now we know why the sixth sheik’s sheep got sick. That is, if his situation is anything like that happening to the farmers in the English county of Shropshire.

Farmers there report their sheep are being “lasered” by lights coming from UFOs. Which would be fine if the aliens thought they were cats and were just trying to get them to play. But no, these lasers are causing “neat holes” in the animals and their brains, eyes, and other internal organs are being removed.

The UFOs in question have been witnessed by multiple members of the Animal Pathology Field Unit who described the experience as, “For a short while it looked more like a Star Wars battle.” No reports are forthcoming as of yet as to ewe shot first.

Latest UFO hotspot is in Hinckley, England

ufo

Area 51 is SO two decades ago. Where does a dedicated UFOlogist go to catch sight of a saucer or two these days? According to a flurry of recent sightings, it appears the place is the rural market town of Hinckley England.

A number of citizens on different evenings have spotted oddly behaving lights in the sky. Earlier in May, witnesses described “an extremely bright red pulsating light hovering low in the sky”and that “at the rear of the main red light, there appeared to be a tail of some kind that was apparently being illuminated by the main light”. A local UFO investigation network volunteer Graham Hall said, “there were no flashing lights seen, or any other colors as on a normal aircraft”. It reportedly appeared to “swim through the night sky, giving the impression of a jellyfish as it moves through water, varying its appearance as it went, before moving very fast, and finally disappearing over rooftops.”

More recently, two different people have observed oddly behaving yellow and blue lights maneuvering in seemingly impossible patterns in the sky. One witness said, “I spotted a blue light traveling at speed. It moved across the sky very quickly at first, and then hovered from side to side before disappearing.”

There of course is a fine line with these sorts of sightings, based entirely on eye-witness testimony. With so many things to rule out, it’s very difficult to assign anything like ‘proof’ to these claims, but it’s certainly fun to speculate nonetheless. But it does beg the questions posed by legendary comic Bill Hicks, “the fact that they cross galaxies or universes to visit us, and always end up in places like
Fyffe f*%$ng Alabama. Maybe these aren’t super-intelligent beings, you know what I mean? “Don’t you wanna go to New York or LA?” “Nah, we just had a long trip, we’re gonna kick back and whittle some.” Oh my god, they’re idiots. We’re gonna enter our mothership in the tractor pull!” Last thing I wanna see is some flying saucer up on blocks in front of some trailer, bumper sticker on it, “They’ll get my raygun when they pry my cold, dead, eighteen-fingered hand off it!”
