“YETI” FINGER DEBUNKED

The "Yeti" finger that was brought back from a monastery hidden in the mountains of Nepal.

Well, we here at The Museum of the Weird were certainly excited about this suposed “Yeti” finger that was to be tested and were hoping for final proof of something that we all believe to be very real.

The hand, the finger tested was removed from, along with a scalp of unknown origin.

Unfortunately, science was not on our side this time and debunked what was looking to be a very promising path to proof of the Nepalese “Yeti” or, Abominable Snowman.

Cryptomundo writes:

The Pangboche Yeti finger was rediscovered while on display at London’s Royal College of Surgeons. The late Dr. William Charles Osman Hill, a consultant to the Tom Slick expeditions, bequeathed it to the Hunterian Museum, which is a division of the Royal College of Surgeons.

The alleged Yeti finger from the Pangboche hand was found by the UK’s Daily Mail reporter Matthew Hill, several months ago and has undergone DNA testing. This certainly has been a year of surprises coming forth from the Tom Slick expeditions of the late 1950s.

Today, on a BBC program, the results of a new DNA test were broadcast. The result of the DNA analysis were announced on a program entitled “Yeti Finger” on BBC Radio 4 on December 27, 2011, at 11 am local time.

For the detailed results and MUCH more info and even videos from the original expedition to Nepal in the 50s, head on over to cryptomundo.com

FAMILY GOT A GIANT SNAKE FOR CHRISTMAS!

While the rest of the neighborhood celebrated Christmas days with unwrapping presents and eating warm cookies from the oven with a glass of milk, this family didn’t quite know what to make of this extra scary gift Santa dropped off this year on Christmas day.

“What gift would that be?” you ask?

Well, a giant burmese python in the pool of course!

The Huffington Post writes:

On Christmas, one South Florida family encountered an unwelcomed guest in their pool and it wasn’t a jolly guy with a big white beard.

Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue captured a 13-foot Burmese python in the swimming hole of one Palmetto Bay home. Visit NBCMiami for the full story.

Burmese pythons are classic headline-makers in South Florida. In 2005, one exploded after trying to eat a six-foot alligator whole. And last October, aBurmese python became a celebrity for having a whole 76-pound deer in its belly.

But those two serpentine incidents occurred out in the Everglades. Finding a ravenous constrictor snake in a suburban pool is a different story.

BRAZILIAN CHILD BORN W/ TWO HEADS!

A Brazilian mother expecting twins, birthed a single body with 2 heads instead.

This definitely does not happen everyday, and surely gave the mother, who was told by doctors to expect twins, a very big surprise.

It’s unfortunate when anything is born into this world with birth defects and even sadder when it’s a human child. It’s not uncommon for them to have shortened life-spans due to the many medical complications that are associated with birth defects but, in this instance, it seems life has given these little ones pretty good odds of making it due to them both having full sets of functioning organs.

If you ever get the chance, come on down to visit us on 6th street in downtown Austin, Tx and check out our collection of animals that have been born with all kinds of different mutations, from a one-headed lamb with two bodies to a piglet born with one large eye like a cyclops and a nose that protrudes from its forehead like a alien antenna!

The Huffington Post writes:

One mother learned her baby had two heads just moments before giving birth via Cesarean section in northern Brazil Monday morning.

Doctors say the babies, which have two heads and share one body, are conjoined twins with functioning organs.

The mother did not receive ultrasound scans throughout her pregnancy, but later told doctors she was initially told she was expecting twins, the Daily Mail reports.

The babies each have their own spines but share one heart, liver, pelvis and pair of lungs. She named the boys Jesus and Emanuel.

MILITARY CAUGHT TRANSPORTING UFO!

This image of the ufo in question was captured by a passing vehicle while it traveled through the usually, quiet Kansas road.

What a site this must have been!

Imagine driving to work just like any other day, maybe running a little bit behind, thinking to yourself  “Oh man, I’m totally gonna be late for… wait, what is that? Is that a UFO on the back of that truck? In Kansas?”

I bet this town was quite the flurry of activity and chatter trying to figure what just drove through their homely little town.

Not to spoil the fun I’m having here but, it turns out it was just a new kind of American military drone being transported to a nearby base

… so they say.

UFO or drone? Either way it looks rather impressive and deadly.

The Huffington Post writes:

What do you call a flying saucer that isn’t flying?

That’s what residents of Cowley County, Kan. are asking themselves after a mysterious 32-foot-long shrouded object that closely resembled sci-fi depictions of UFOs rolled down US 77 on a flatbed truck.

“There was this funny sphere that went through on this big trailer and my first thought was, ‘That looks like a UFO’,” Kammi Root told ABC-7.

The UFO — in this case an unidentified freight object — was so big that police had to remove signs so it could turn a corner, Sheriff Don Read told the station.

“They told us that it was an aircraft and that they had explored other ways to transport it but this was the best way for them to do it and they asked us not to say a whole lot about it,” Read said.

STONEHENGE ORIGIN REVEALED!

Well, the amazingly large stones of Stonehenge have been traced back to where they came from, a quarry in Wales over 150 miles away, how insane!

If you’ve ever been to Stonehenge itself, located in Amesbury, Wiltshire, in the United Kingdom, you would think that moving stones of this size from such a distance, or any distance really, would be impossible. Yet, somehow, our ancestors of thousands of years ago knew methods and secrets of doing so that we are still trying to figure out today but, we’re getting closer and closer to the how of it all every day.

Now the only question we really need to answer is, “Why?”.

The Huffington Post writes:

For the first time ever, scientists say they have determined the exact origins of some of the rocks that make up England’s famous Stonehenge.

By studying the mineral make-up and texture of fragments of the stones, two geologists claim to have traced the rocks that form a horseshoe and the innermost ring of the prehistoric landmark to an outcropping 160 miles away, according to the BBC.

The rhyolite debitage rocks — dubbed bluestones — come from a 230-foot cluster in Pembrokeshire, Wales, called Craig Rhos-y-Felin, The Independentreports.

Though significant, the discovery by geologists Robert Ixer and Richard Bevins doesn’t answer one of Stonehenge’s biggest mysteries: How exactly the builders of the ancient site transported the rocks such a great distance.

LIGHT BULB-EATING WORLD RECORD!

Now here’s a skill not everyone has, although we know one or two around here at the Museum of the Weird that eat a bit more glass than the doctor recommends.

One stunt man, RJ Williams, has perfected his glass lightbulb eating so much so that he’s  set a world record!

The Huffington Post writes:

If  R.J. Wiliams doesn’t feel so light on his feet right now, there’s good reason: He just swallowed a lightbulb in 33.86 seconds.

The resident of Brooklyn made his mark on history (and his gastrointestinal track) on December 9 and the adjudicators at recordsetter.com were there to make sure that everything was on the up-and-up as the lightbulb went down.

The rules that Williams followed were simple: He had to use a standard, household light bulb; he had to eat everything excluding the metal parts; he could only use his teeth to break and eat the light bulb and he could only wash it down with water.

The video is a little dark, (not surprising, considering Williams was eating the very thing that could have improved the picture quality), but you can definitely see Williams chowing down.

Bon appetit!

DEMON-DOG! POSSESSED POODLE RUINS LIVES!

I think this more than qualifies many times over as being weird news! What do you think?

Ever have any possesions or contact with spirits in your life?

Leave us a comment and let us know all about it!

The Huffington Post writes:

Are your children misbehaving at school? Are your loved ones suffering from medical ailments? Is your home infested with bedbugs?

If you answered yes to all of these questions, you’ll be happy to know that there’s a simple reason you are experiencing these seemingly unrelated misfortunes: Your dog is possessed by a demon.

And, thankfully, there’s a simple solution: A $197 pendant sold by a woman who claims her poodle was inhabited by a demonic spirit.

But wait, there’s more!

New York artist Olga Horvat started designing demon-deterring accessories after she adopted Princess, a pure-bred toy poodle that she credits — or blames — for literally tearing her life into pieces.

RARE BRIGHT BLUE LOBSTER SAVED FROM DINNER

This beautiful blue lobster was born with a genetic mutation that turned him a bright, electric-blue rather than the dark, midnight-blue that just about all the other “blue” lobsters are born as. One fisherman just couldn’t let the little guy make it to somone’s dinner table so he scooped him up and gave him to a local aquarium for the world to see, how nice!

The Daily Mail writes:

An incredible electric-blue lobster has been saved from the dinner table after it was spotted at a fish market and rehomed.

The striking crustacean was found by stunned fishermen off the east coast of Scotland and displayed for sale at a fish market in London.

However, fishmonger Rex Goldsmith thought the stunning lobster was too nice to eat and bought it before handing it over to researchers at the Natural History Museum.

Scientists at the museum believe the European lobster, traditionally a much darker shade of blue, hatched out with the unusual colour due to a rare genetic variant.

RUSSIAN MAN FOUND WITH 29 CORPSES IN APARTMENT

The 45 year-old man accused of robbing graves for bodies.

This is weird, really weird.

A man from Russia has been arrested for robbing graves and taking the corpses home to dress them up as dolls and pose them around the house.

One of the mummified bodies dressed as a doll and posed as if sitting on a couch.

Just plain creepy.

CNN writes:

Moscow (CNN) — A historian has been arrested in central Russia after police found the corpses of 29 women, dressed as dolls, in his apartment, authorities said this week.

The 45-year-old man, who police did not identify, has been charged with desecrating bodies and graves, officials said.

Video released by police showed an eerie collection of what looks like life-sized dolls, outfitted in shabby dresses and headscarves, their hands and faces wrapped in fabric. Authorities say the man also stole clothes from the graves when he took the bodies.

Russian Interior Ministry spokesman Gen. Valery Gribakin told CNN police couldn’t figure out for a long time who was behind the “numerous blasphemous acts against the graves and the dead bodies” at several cemeteries in and around Nizhny Novgorod, about 250 miles east of Moscow.

WHO WANTS A WOOLY MAMMOTH?!

With the long strides in medical and scientific research and discoveries that are happening more and more often it looks like we have a whole lot of really cool and, once thought impossible, things coming our way.

One of recent interest and, one I find absolutely fascinating, is the ability to clone animals, which has been proven possible many times over but, what about the animals that lived on earth thousands of years ago?

Seems like we’re in luck.

CBS News writes:

(Livescience.com)  Woolly mammoths — shaggy, long-extinct relatives of modern elephants — could be easier to clone than one might think, researchers say.

Still, even if any such efforts succeed, they might take decades to accomplish, not the five years in which scientists from Russia and Japan reportedly have said they can achieve it.

Woolly mammoths (Mammuthus primigenius) wandered the planet for more than a million years, ranging from Europe to Asia to North America. Nearly all of these giants vanished from Siberia by about 10,000 years ago, although dwarf mammoths survived on Wrangel Island in the Arctic Ocean until 3,700 years ago.

Scientists regularly conduct research on the DNA of these shaggy giants, extracting it from tusks, bone and teeth. With all this genetic material on hand, there lies the distinct possibility mammoths might be cloned one day.

Although some sources say the cloning of a wooly mammoth will happen soon, possibly within 5 years, others, such as CBS News, think it may take just a bit longer than that.

What I do know is that, if they can clone a mammoth, they can probably make a tiny version of one as well, right? Now, just try and convince me that a Mini-Mammoth would not be the greatest pet ever.
